I really am a bad mother. I haven't even posted photos of the newest additions to the family, and they've been here for at least a month now. Shame on me! Not to mention updates on the other little babies.

No, not about actual pumpkins, but about my tarantula Pumpkin the Pamphobeteus sp. "platyomma". I mentioned in my last post that he'd molted, and I got a really nice photo of him (hopefully her) showing off his size and colour.

Pumpkin! The black thing is a pop bottle cap, for size comparison.

The molt. Sadly the abdomen got all curled up before I could look for lady bits!

I figure it's best to just get these out of the way, since I'm driving to Montreal this weekend for another Reptile Expo and I'm planning on coming back with about another half dozen tarantula spiderlings. Pterinochulous murinus, here I come!

Cheers!

So I bought another tarantula. I was dreaming of tarantulas this morning, of holding them and being happy, and when I woke, I had the idea to go out and get an adult. All of mine were babies up until I got this one.

I would like you all, to meet Leona...Read more... )

Meaning this is going to be the post that holds all my photos from the War Museum, from my trip to Montréal and the Biodôme and Insectarium there, as well as everything that happened this past weekend. I really need to get this all out of the way already!

Well, I'd meant to make a nice long post, talking about everything I've been up to lately (which is a lot) and post all my totally awesome photos... but I am just about to go do even more stuff, and take more photos. So if I ever want to post anything, I'd best get a ton of it out of the way right now.

So! I haven't posted in almost two weeks and the big reason for that is because I've been away from home! Out of province! GONE! Too bad I'm back already. I mentioned it in previous posts, but on Thursday the 16th, I left Ottawa to go to Edmonton, Alberta. I was tired because I had gone to see KISS at the Bluesfest the night before and come home late, but that didn't stop me. I'd never been on a plane before in my life so this was a whole new experience for me.

I arrived at the Edmonton Airport at 11am Thursday morning with the sun shining. A good start to my first time outside of Ontario or the little area of Québec I've ever been to. My friend Nat came to pick me up, and after running some errands and packing a last few things, she drove me out to Drayton Valley. There I met up with my friend Jesse and we set up camp and I spent the next three nights out there at Motion Notion. Nat came back Friday evening because she'd had to work that day, and then Saturday her boyfriend joined us too. It was an absolutely amazing experience. The music was great, the vibe amazing, everybody was friendly. It was... something I will look back on fondly for the rest of my life. If I can, I am totally going back again next year.

The beach again. I got a sunburn sitting out on the water like that.

Nat got a really bad sun burn on Saturday too.

More firedancing.

This is actually a flaming hoola-hoop. And she's topless. Crazy!

And sadly, fields as we left on Sunday...

Nat and I singing on the way back to Edmonton. Save a horse, ride a cowboy!

When we got back to Nat's apartment on Sunday, she and I were both very happy to be able to take a nice shower. I took mine mostly cold because my sunburn was pretty sensitive at the time haha... That evening, as it was too late to go out and do anything after having unpacked and whatnot, we had supper and I made some cheesecake squares. Yes. I went all the way out to Alberta and still did some baking.

The cheesecake squares!

I spent most of my last three days there with Jesse. Nat was working from 9am-6pm everyday and he offered to take me around the town, so I didn't argue at the offer of company. Because her apartment was ridiculously sweltering hot, he and I just got a hotel room for the rest of my stay there. We walked down Whyte Avenue visiting shops, wandered around the West Edmonton Mall and visited the Telus World of Science museum.

It was supposed to move stage props for plays, apparently.

Anyhow... I left early (and I mean early! 8am flight!) Thursday morning on the 23rd and came home to Ottawa. I really didn't want to leave. I was having far too wonderful a time out there. But all good things must come to an end I suppose. I've only been home about 36 hours but my trip to Alberta already seems unreal, ages away.

I came home to find that four of my tarantulas had molted while I was away. Thor, Hunter, Nyx and Dima all molted while I was away. I'm a little jealous because my friend Tina - who was wonderful enough to come check on all the animals while I was away - witnessed both Thor and Hunter's molting. I've yet to see any of them molt myself. I'm going to have to get Thor a new container though, he's far too big for his current one now that he's molted again.

Here is Thor running around on my arm today.

And Pumpkin eating a juicy cricket earlier today.

And here a video of Thor running up and down my arms!

There... now I believe that's everything for the moment. I start work again on Monday (totally not looking forward to that let me tell ya) and then on Friday the 31st I head up to Sturgeon for the long weekend. I take a driving test on Tuesday, and hopefully I pass. If I do, I'll be driving a car home!

But, it's late, and I'm going to do a bit of reading - Fight Club, suggested by my friend Jesse - and then get to bed. Cheers!

I got home from work Friday to discover that my Pamphobeteus sp. "platyomma" tarantula, Pumpkin, had molted during the day! This makes me terribly happy. He'd only molted a month ago and has already molted again. He's grown a good 1/2 inch with this molt. Just to show you how much he's grown between this molt and the last...

The one of the left is obviously the one from Friday and the smaller one is from a month ago. The difference is huge, isn't it? It's amazing how that larger form was squashed inside that smaller one. Spiders are such crazy awesome creatures.

Yep... the girl who couldn't wait to live alone went and agreed to someone bunking on her couch. It's for a week or two... until July 2nd the latest. My friend got kicked out by his girlfriend after they broke up and he needed somewhere to stay until he could move into his apartment on the 2nd. And because I'm a nice and stupid person, I offered my couch up. Durh.

He hasn't been there for an entire day yet and I already miss my privacy. Feh. I don't mind him...  I just... mind not having my space. And he seems to keep trying to be polite by conversing with me whenever we're both there, and well... I just want to continue living in my home like I did when he wasn't there. I'm not his host, he's not my guest... he's sleeping on my couch. Bah. I'm weird. But this is the last time I do this.

In more YAY news, I'm getting two more tarantulas! A Grammostola rosea, and a Grammostola rosea of the red colour form. Two little 1/2" spiderlings which will be arriving Tuesday morning. Ah I'm so excited! More little darlings to love!

Plus my father says that he caught two more large spiders and is keeping them for me until they either come to Ottawa or I go visit them. Ah, my little zoo, it is expanding!

It finally feels like summer out. And by that, I mean ridiculously, unbearably hot and humid. Ah, summer in North Ontario. Oh well... I'd rather be hot than cold I suppose.

Anyhow, there's some stuff I should probably get done here at work... Cheers!

Okay! This post is going to be text light and photo heavy... because I am lazy and I just want to get it done already! Okay! Here goes!
