I have officially bought my plane tickets out to Alberta. Oh man. I'm starting to fret a little about the flight... I've never so much as been near a plane, much less on one. The friend that I'm going to see did a good job of comforting me and helping me not to worry too much about it though, since she's taken quite a few flights in the last while.

Apparently I got a really good deal on the tickets too... cost me a little over $650 round trip, taxes and fees included. I'm quite satisfied with that price, personally. It's a lot of money, certainly, but it'll be worth it.

Holy shit I'm going to Alberta!!! *runs around like a maniac*

I've barely left Ontario, only slight forrays into Québec and really not very far in. This is... this is halfway across the country! Gah! Craziness! I'm so excited though!

Now I just need to buy my Motion Notion ticket, and I'll be set. Oh man, I just looked at a ton of photos from the previous years and I am so pumped... this is going to be amazing!!!! Here... have a look-see for yourself!

This thing just explodes with awesome!!!! And I haven't even been yet! XD *flails*

I haven't seen my friend Nat in over a year now, not since she moved out to Alberta this time last year. We went to high school together and I've known her for years and years... I'll be the first person she sees from back home to go out there since she left Ontario. Ah it will be marvelous seeing her again.

Damn... now I'm all really wanting to go, hardcore. 6 weeks away! XD Woo!

In other news... I am entering a baking contest at work! It's Public Service week in two weeks and since I work for the government, they're holding a bunch of different events and stuff. Most of it totally doesn't interest me, but I love baking... so I am going to participate in this! (the fact that I've been officially claimed as the library's baker lady by the staff means I'm also kiiind of obligated now haha but I don't mind) The theme is "Olympics 2010" and I'm going to put a little library spin to it.

The cake will be a regular cake - chocolate or vanilla, I've yet to decide - into which I will carve the vague shape of an open book i.e. slightly rounded with a little dip in the middle. This I will then cover in fondant (my enemy, I will try using you again!) and using a fork will score 'pages' into the sides. I will pipe coloured icing around the edges to mock a book cover.

On the open 'pages' of the book, on the left side, there will be the 2010 Olympic's logo, made of rice crispy treats covered in appropriately coloured fondant. It will be nice and 3D, and give the cake a nice 'pop' effect I think. On the right, so far we're thinking just piping "Vancouver 2010" and maybe the 5 olympic rings. Still working on that bit.

But yeah... I'm really kind of excited about this! I love theme cakes, and I love pushing my baking skills. Ah, it will be good. And since the one woman in my team has a car and a larger kitchen than my own, we'll do the baking at her place and she'll be able to transport the cake to work come time. I'm certainly going to take photos of the finished product (unless something catastrophic happens and it's hideous) to show you guys. =D

My last attempt at using fondant didn't go quite as I'd planned... I made an Easter Egg cake when my parents' came up to visit me over Easter. It didn't fail horribly, but I'm not all that proud of it either. Eh, I can't get worse.

But yesss.... OMG ALBERTA! *explodes*
