Meet Jed

He's the so far newest addition to the family. He's a betta splendens, also known as a fighting fish. I was at the pet store last Thursday, picking up crickets for the spiders, and spotted him while at the cash. And I knew I just had to bring him home. I've been checking out the bettas ever since my previous fish, Charlie, jumped out of his bowl and dried to death. Quite tragic really, however I now keep all the fish bowls covered. And by all, I mean those belonging to Jed, and my other betta George. Speaking of George... this is him!

I've had George since back in December though. Which for me is quite miraculous since I tend to have bad luck with fish, even bettas which are supposed to be extremely hardy little fish. The fact that Charlie jumped out of his bowl, to his untimely death just punctuates the fact that fish and I don't always get along. But I'm doing my best, because I felt extremely bad when I found Charlie the next morning. I love all my pets, even the fish, and I want them to be happy and healthy and safe.

I probably will wind up getting a few more bettas, since I quite like them. They're beautiful fish, and easy to care for so hey, why not. Plus they come in so many colours now, it's a veritable fish rainbow out there! It's too bad that the pet stores around here don't stock more of the fancier types, because they can get so ridiculously pretty. And Ottawa doesn't seem to have any betta splendens breeders, sadly.

In other news... I am totally going to go Alberta in 4 days! Thursday morning I'm leaving bright and early on a plane and heading West. And I am so exicted and anxious. It still almost doesn't seem real and a little part of me is worried something will go wrong to ruin the whole thing but... I'M GOING TO ALBERTA HOLY COW!

But before I do leave, I'm going to be seeing KISS at the Bluesfest Wednesday night! I can't wait! I've been listening to them since I'm little, it'll be so amazing to see them live. I'll be tired as hell come next morning when I have to get up to get ready for my flight, but it'll be well worth it to see KISS.

Anyhow, I should really be doing some work before I leave, since today and tomorrow are my last days at work this week. Cheers!
